01 — The tool
Convert stereo to mono for a single-channel recording
The free Loudness.ai Stereo to Mono Converter combines the left and right sides of a stereo recording into one channel. This is useful when a spoken recording needs a mono export or when you want to check how a stereo mix sounds through a single speaker. Listen to the converted preview before saving it.
You can also select mono to stereo to copy one channel into two identical channels. This makes a two-channel file without adding a wider stereo image. If you need to keep just the left or right side, use the Audio Channel Editor instead of combining both sides.

02 — How it works
How to convert stereo audio to mono online for free
Open your recording
Choose an audio file and check its channel count. Play a section containing both speech and background sound so you have a useful reference for the conversion.
Choose mono or stereo output
Select mono to combine the left and right channels, or stereo to copy a mono signal to both sides. Prepare the preview and listen for changes in balance or missing sounds.
Choose the export settings
Download MP3 or WAV. For WAV, choose 16-bit or 24-bit output; for MP3, choose the bitrate. Select the sample rate that fits the project receiving your file.
03 — Practical uses
Mono audio for podcasts, voiceovers and playback checks
Spoken recordings
Convert a stereo interview or narration to one channel when your editing project requires mono speech. Check that both voices remain audible. Use the Audio Cutter to save a shorter passage first if you only need one answer.
Single-speaker playback
Listen to the mono version of a music recording to check whether important sounds remain present. A sound that becomes quieter after conversion may behave differently when the original stereo channels are combined.
Two-channel delivery
Copy a mono voice recording to two channels when the next editor expects a stereo file. Both channels contain the same sound. Use the Audio Mixer if you also need to combine the voice with another recording.
04 — Frequently asked questions
Stereo to Mono Converter questions
How are the stereo channels combined?
The converter averages the left and right channels into one mono channel. Listen to the preview because combining two different signals can change the balance of instruments, voices or ambience.
Does mono to stereo create a wider sound?
It creates two identical channels from a mono source. This changes the file's channel layout, but it does not add different sounds to the left and right or recreate a stereo recording.
Can I keep only one channel?
Use the Audio Channel Editor to export only the left or right channel. That is useful when a microphone is recorded on one side and unwanted sound is on the other.
Does mono conversion reduce file size?
A mono WAV generally holds less channel data than a stereo WAV at the same duration, sample rate and bit depth. For MP3, the selected bitrate also affects size. Compare the export settings as well as channel count.
