01 — The tool
Mix audio tracks with independent volume and timing
The free Loudness.ai Audio Mixer layers recordings on a shared timeline and saves their combined sound as one file. Add narration, background music or another recording, then set each track's start time and volume. You can mix up to eight tracks and mute one while checking the others.
Mixing lets sounds play together, rather than simply placing them one after another. Keep speech easy to hear over music and check the combined level when several tracks overlap. The master volume and Prevent clipping setting help manage the result. For recordings that belong in sequence, use the Audio Joiner.

02 — How it works
How to mix audio online for free
Add the tracks
Choose the recordings you want to combine. Check the track names and durations so you can distinguish the voice, music and other sounds before adjusting their placement.
Balance volume and start times
Set when each track begins, then adjust its volume. Mute a track to hear the others clearly. Lower background music until the voice remains understandable during the loudest section.
Preview and export the mix
Prepare the mix and listen at a fixed playback volume. Check the beginning, overlapping sections and ending, then choose MP3 or WAV and export when the balance works.
03 — Practical uses
Mix narration, background music and layered recordings
Voiceover with background music
Place narration over a music bed and set the music to begin where needed. Trim an overly long music file with the Audio Cutter before adding it to the mix.
Podcast introductions
Layer a spoken introduction over a short theme or sound cue. Compare the combined level with the following speech. Leave enough room for every word when music and voice overlap.
Practice and rehearsal layers
Combine a reference part with another recording to hear how they fit together. Adjust start times to align their entrances, then mute each track in turn to identify timing or balance problems.
04 — Frequently asked questions
Audio Mixer questions
How many audio tracks can I mix?
Add up to eight recordings. Each track has its own volume, start time and mute control. Start with the essential tracks and add others after the voice or main part is balanced.
Does the mixer automatically lower music under speech?
You set each track's level manually. Lower the music so spoken words remain clear. Listen to sections where speech is softer as well as louder, then adjust the balance before exporting.
Why does my mix sound louder than each original?
Overlapping tracks add together. Their combined level can be higher than any track alone. Lower individual tracks or master volume and use Prevent clipping while checking the result.
Can I fade two songs into each other?
Use Audio Crossfade for an overlapping transition between two recordings. It provides a fade curve and overlap control. The mixer is for layering tracks at chosen times and levels.
