How should I record a microphone test?
Leave the first two seconds quiet, then speak at your normal recording volume for about ten seconds. Keep the microphone and room setup the same as your final session. Select the quiet section if you also want to measure room noise.
Fix the recording before the full take
Very low levels may need more input gain, while near-full-scale samples suggest reducing gain or controlling peaks. Compare a second test after changing the setup. Noise measurements depend on the region you select and do not identify its source automatically.
